A Sustainable Banking Solution

Transitioning to an eco-sustainable lifestyle can be challenging but we can do it, one step at a time.

Today, let’s look at banking options.

Banking is a necessary part of our everyday life.  In a world where more people and businesses favor plastic cards over actual dollar bills, finding a bank that seeks to make a positive impact on the world becomes increasing more important. Finding a bank that shares one’s value system though, it priceless.  I am not going to deny that I have been longing to move to a different bank. I desire to bank with a company that shares my morals, values and goals to live an eco-friendly, sustainable and ethically source lifestyle and while I cannot and do not speak for previous banks, I have not seen any documentation to reflect a desire for them to transfer.

This one is tricky though and has taken some time.  In fact, I am still working a process I though would be quick and painless because so many additional factors that go along with this process.  Still, I have taken the leap and by the end of the year, my goal shall be achieved, maybe even before. (You can’t see me, but I am glowing on the inside!!!!)

I found a bank

that cares about the people who bank there just as much as they care about their business.  They have great morals and focus on:

Serving the Greater Community with Fairness

The bank I am talking about is Aspiration*.

Aspiration is a bank that allows you to spend, save, invest and give.  With their Spend and Save Account, you have a checking and savings account.  Unlike my previous bank, I can easily see when money was taken out for my responsibilities, what I have spent my money on and how much I donated with each purchase (more on that later).  They give pop-up alerts which are so convenient and there is no confusion about where your money was spent, an unfortunate issue I had with a previous institution. For your retirement, you can plan for your future without sacrificing your values using their sustainable IRA, the Aspiration Redwood Fund is distributed by Capital Investment Group, Inc.   They are all inclusive!

Aspiration* sustains

a growing financial institution while giving to causes they believe in.  They provide discounts to customers who shop at certain eco-conscious stores such as Dropps as part of their Conscience Coalition initiative, which is super cool! I most emphasize that this feature is for those who choose to pay the   I hope they eventually expand to support companies such as EarthHero*, WearPact*, MadeTerra*, Vivobarre and Who Gives A Crap, as they have are striving to be socially responsible and eco-friendly companies as well!  In fact, there are has been an uptick in companies, too many to discuss, that are making strides right now to serve customers without comprising the Earth and that gives me hope.  Aspiration* also allows you to work towards being carbon neutral with their “Plant Your Change For All” initiative.  Essentially, with every purchase, Aspiration rounds to the nearest dollar and the cents are donated to plant a tree.

If that is not the best way both a bank and its customers can take strides towards eco-responsibility, then frankly, I do not know what is.

Now do not be alarmed, you can certainly set a weekly limit, allowing you to support based upon what works best for you.  Again, they are a bank for the community.

Final Thoughts

I know I sound like their personal cheerleader, but that’s because I am!

This process has been slow and I have made so major progress with even bigger setbacks, but this I feel has been my biggest win! I love this bank, what they stand for and how kind they have been to work with when I needed their help.
My final thoughts are for you to do your research.  Find a bank that works with your moral principles, value system and lifestyle.  Find a bank that treats you like a person and you feel allows you to be control, grow and invest your money for you and/or your loved ones.  For me that is Aspiration*.  Whether or not they are for you is up to you.  I implore you to consider them but if you find another bank that you like, please share for others to see.

You are amazing, just keep moving forward towards the goal of eco-sustainable holistic health, never forgetting that financial wellness is apart of your overall wellbeing.

Until next time, keep making progress, one step at a time.
